Adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 Trail Running And Test Review

The adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 lineup will be in full during 2018 , it was full improved compare with the   adidas Ultra Boost 3.0. So what is like ? any improved ? How about the trail running ?

We will check it today .

This running shoe, which   directly championed as “the strongest”, has undoubtedly become the most outstanding running shoe . Whether it is showed professional or the  trend of fashion, there are more topics for this running shoe. Only in our opinion, the difference from 1.0 to 4.0 is really minimal.

For the material , it seems followed the 3.0 ,used the elastic mesh with high-density printing, inner sleeve, plastic midfoot cage. However there is a little difference .

Unlike the Ultra Boost ST which prefers the reinforced support on the inner side of the running shoe, and it also differs from the Uncaged  which only retaining the Primeknit upper to makes the running shoe a purely casual . As for Energy Boost 4, the old- design with Tech-Fit upper with EVA and Boost midsole, is it  a traditional pair of running shoes?

The soft and comfortable Primeknit knitted upper, with Heel Counter heel locking system extending to the heel, and the famous full-length Boost cushioning. The classic Torsion System midsole and the Strech Web mesh rubber  constitute the entire  Ultra Boost 4.0.

midsoles were made with EVA variants or inserts which claimed to enhance the ride experience. The Boost foam put an end to all that.

The Boost platform paved the way for similar technologies in competing brands. Saucony Everun is based on expanded polyurethane, the same tech as Boost. For compare with the Puma Ignite ,the material is from BASF, the same supplier which manufactures the Boost and Everun compound. So you will be familiar with this material if you bought the PUMA.

From 2.0 , the outsole of the running shoe will be flat-edged rubber  to provide a better cushioning effect. In 4.0, this designer has continued to followed the last version, at the same time, the same midsole  give the running shoes a strong  and comfortable feeling , so that this running shoes not only help you do what you want to do in running, With its wilderness attributes, you can shape the street freestyle at any time.

Perhaps 1.0’s design has been classic enough, or the appearance of running shoes has been accepted by consumers, so this pair of UB4.0 is only a slight adjustment on the upper material and the  bottom, we come together take a look.

The upper uses a design template which is similar to what was used on the past Energy Boosts. The forefoot and toe-box is all mesh and is covered with high-density printing. adidas calls this ‘Techfit.’

For the Ultra Boost series, the presence of the brand Logo has always been in very low. As a pair of running shoes with strong trends, it is obviously more appropriate to express the running shoe identity through abstract elements than over or overly conspicuous Logo.

Three triples of  the HeelCounter locking system that extends to the heel. This is standard on Ultra Boost. The midfoot has the dreaded cage, and the heel has the pronounced Achilles lip. An external heel counter covers either side of the rearfoot and this eliminates the need for an internal stiffener. The tongue is a part of a sleeve, and only four lacing rows (plus one reserve) span the top.

In the past ,Boost used the EVA and Boost mixed midsole design has faded  out of sight gradually , Boost outstanding bounce combined with  midsole density and stability device, with more dense small dynamic particle interaction which Achieved relatively stable support and excellent resilience.

The matte material side support frame and Primeknit uppers are visually more low-key coordinated. Compared to UB3.0 translucent material, the matte material looks more stable and strong.

For the traction : The traction is still designed with Energy  rubber which improved the resistance and grip of running shoes.  The protrusions of the mesh point are a good dispersion of the foot pressure on landing, and can also get good dynamic feedback.

It can be seen that the HeelCounter heel locking system running shoes though and extending to the heel, improved high-density Boost and anti-twisting system, constitutes the three-support stable device for running shoes, making the running shoes in the short-distance practical In the constant running test, it can always provide a stable support effect.

For the fitting :it is true size , but due to the tolerance of the high-footed groups, 4.0 is slightly looser in the actual wearing experience.
I played EUR 44 size, wear the normal  size is appropriate after tightening laces, here for reference.

Running shoes Black Primeknit uppers with a pure white Boost midsole, complemented by a matte framed three-bar frame, culminates in a distinctive low-key fashion with smooth overall body lines.

Put on 4.0, I felt  the comfortable and bounce. Compared to Nike’s Flyknit, Primeknit is more conformable , and excellent stretchability gives better tension from the upper. After solving the problem of previous uppers, the Primeknit upper will maximize on the UB4.0. Compatible with all types of foot.

The switch to a Continental rubber outsole also bodes well for transitions and grip. The layout now covers the Torsion shank, so the midfoot transitions feel smoother.

The midsole is super cushioned and the outsole is extremely durable. The improved upper mesh feels great over the foot, and the shoe has a secure fit quality.

There are some test pictures as below :

For the gripping : Primeknit knitted have been a different densities but different grip under different dynamics. The HeelCounter heel counter locking system working  well. The heels of the various actions are very close to the feet. The problem was that the forefoot uppers were too loose in the speeding process , hope that it will be improved next version

For the cushioning :The  Boost cushioning is great .The outsole is now Continental which means a longer life and better grip over surfaces. The Energy Boost’s midsole retains the plush cushioning and responsiveness from the earlier models. At each step, the high-density Boost gave me a solid foot feel through the well-balanced sole structure,

For the grip : As a running  shoe, a good grip is amazing. the rubber pattern  is perfect for different gripping effects in different directions. The Strech Web mesh structure is a good dispersion of foot pressure when landing, even after a slippery road , it work well .

It can be seen that the sole touches the ground sufficiently during uniform running. At this time, Boost has a strong sense of foot, which can also prove that this pair of running shoes is more suitable for running in this situation.

For the supporting : The midsole  has a moderate thickness, providing excellent cushioning during running and clear road feedback for both feet. The three side bar frame on the shoe side and the heel tpu stabilizing piece with the sole Torsion System device provide stable support but through the actual test , the support effect of running shoes is very limited.

Overall,as the fourth version product of the Ultra Boost series, 4.0 still continues its previous design, and there is not much breakthrough. However, by optimizing the design of some details, the running shoes still have an improvement in the wearing experience.also the 4.0 provides a good support for the foot while providing a comfortable foot.
Of course, its  variety of color combinations, simple and smooth design language rich running shoes, a clear trend of the property, regardless of daily street or leisure sports, it can provide top-level wearing experience.
